James joined LGBRC in 2025. He participates in the Saturday Training Ride with other team members.
When asked how he got into cycling, he responds, "
I used to run marathons in my 30s, so I already knew the basics of endurance training. My brother convinced me to fly to Wisconsin for a century ride, and I fell in love with cycling during the training process."
He adds, "I've completed a couple 100-mile rides (supported and unsupported), but riding a double-Umunhum in high-heat seemed more difficult than those."
"For my day job, I'm a programmer. Specifically, I've contributed to optimizing compiler back-ends for several start-ups and most recently the GPU compiler at NVIDIA."
He adds, "I brew beer, build wood furniture and maintain my bikes.
I follow a self-prescribed polarized training plan. I enjoy hill climbs and try to structure my training around improving results on the steep grades."
I'm planning to ride the Pike's Peak hill-climb in August. I also have the nebulous goal of riding up Mt. Haleakala "some time soon".
